Pryvit! (Hello in Ukrainian),

Do you feel that your clients will be more successful if you connected with them on a deeper level and gave them personalized support that meets them where they're at?

Do you ever wonder why someone struggles to take each step to reach their goals, even with clear instructions?

Is it possible that your recommendations and advice may be a bit overwhelming for some clients to fully understand and put into practise—even when they really want to?

I ask myself these questions every time I create or share content.

It's true that you know more than the average person about wellness, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, self-care, etc., right?

It's called the "curse of knowledge."

That means that you know much more than the average person and that knowledge might sometimes lead to not realizing that the people you speak with may not know some of the basics that you take for granted in your area of expertise.

This leads me to two things I want to share with you today; one for your clients, and one for you.

#1 (For your clients) - The benefits of working with people one-on-one👩‍👧‍👧

When people are not getting results or reaching the health goals you know they can achieve, it may be that they're overwhelmed with decision fatigue.

One of the biggest hurdles to habit change is figuring out how to seamlessly integrate a new habit into an existing lifestyle so that it becomes effortless.

When people learn from you what they *should* do to improve their health, it might be hard to always put that into simple, actionable steps that will suit their personal lifestyles and preferences.

For example, if your recent post or email suggests eating more greens, there may be dozens of questions that overwhelm someone who truly wants to start eating greens.

Meeting people where they're at and showing them the benefits of making changes is key. And that's going to be different for every single person.

Some people are already pretty competent at grocery shopping or cooking, but not everyone is. Others have a few extra minutes and dollars to invest in their health, but not everyone does. And many may believe that their wellness is worth a bit more effort, but some may question the value.

We can help our ideal clients reach their goals by being genuinely curious, compassionate, and supportive.

The best way to do this is to spend some time to really get to know them (especially paying clients, but also those who subscribe to your emails and follow you on social media).

Let's not take for granted what we as health pros know, and try to put ourselves in their shoes. When they're interested and motivated, you can have a quick 1:1 session to more clearly see and overcome their struggles so they can keep working toward better health.

Here's just a sample of what can start going through someone's mind when they agree with you that, yes they should eat more greens:

  • What *exactly* is a "green"? I'm familiar with iceberg lettuce, are there others? Spinach? Does broccoli count? How about peas?
  • What if I hate salads? What if I've tried kale before and didn't like it? How can I make it taste good?
  • I don't have a lot of time, so how much effort do I *realistically* need to make this work for me?
  • How do I choose a fresh green? An inexpensive one? An extremely nutritious one? What about frozen or canned?
  • If I buy it fresh, do I need to wash it? Cut it? Grate it? Take it off stems?
  • Should I choose one that's local? Conventional? Organic? Greenhouse?
  • How do I eat it if I don't want a salad? Can the greens be cooked? Do they make good side dishes? Main dishes? Can I add them to other foods (e.g., soup, casseroles)?
  • I can't eat a whole head/container, so what am I going to do with the leftovers?

As you can imagine, these are just a few of the questions someone may have who is new to healthier eating, but it's also possible that one or two of these questions may apply to just about anyone who isn't a health professional like you.

This is exactly where I see the benefit of adding a bit of one-on-one personalized coaching.

When you get to know people better, you can tailor your recommendations, answer all questions, and check in to hold them accountable. You can see how much background they have in health and wellness, what their kitchen skills are, and what foods and flavours they prefer.

And now is a really, really good time to promote (or create) one-on-one coaching or VIP options to do this.

Not only to help clients get better results, but also because with the loneliness and doom that are impacting society these days (from higher phone use, etc.), people are craving connection.

They're craving relationships. They want to be heard and seen. They are getting tired of seeing everyone's "perfect" (or terrible) lives online and some might need a bit of help to really be able to move toward their personal goals.

The impact of more content, flashier content, clickbait content, AI content, and all of the lack of authenticity is grating on people.

They're sick of unrealistic standards, impossible goals, "brain rot," and fake everything.

One of the wellness trends I shared recently are "analogue bags." These include knit/crochet projects, physical books, and art supplies that can be easily transported from room to room or place to place. Many people are also putting down their smartphones for flip phones, cameras, and mp3 players.

True connection with humans (and nature) is a real desire these days, it seems. And one-on-one meetings where I try to really listen and understand is something I'm personally incorporating more of into my health writing business these days.

I'm not at all saying to not promote your group programs and courses. If they're doing well then please, keep them going!

In fact, double-down on what's working for you and your clients and audience.

But, *if* you find that your audience is not engaging or communicating with you as much, or that clients are dropping out of programs, not completing courses, not attending group sessions—and especially if you see that people are not getting results—perhaps you can consider offering a little one-on-one or VIP session. This is your valuable, professional, expert time where you might be able to make a huge impact on your clients' lifestyles and health. When you give your full attention and personally help them get over whatever unique roadblocks are in their way and help them make it work for their day-to-day lifestyle, this may make all the difference in the world for their health right now.

There are so many ways to do this. If you want me to show you one way that I'm implementing more personalization into my business right now, keep reading. . . .
