New resources for nutrition nerds 📑📓📚🤓🧠

Pryvit! (Hello in Ukrainian),

I always have my nose in new health research, so I'm sharing three new sources of nutrition intel that can help with your practice.

As far as I know, the first one below is not in any way sponsored by the food industry and is probably the most critical of it. It's also the one I'm most excited about.

As for the other two, I'd take them with a grain of salt.

1 – New book: Food Intelligence by Julia Belluz & Kevin Hall

Kevin Hall is one of my favourite nutrition researchers. Back in 2020, I profiled his breakthrough study of ultra-processed vs minimally processed food intake on my blog.

Julia Belluz is one of my favourite nutrition journalists. She wrote some excellent pieces for Vox deciphering nutrition studies and study design and I mentioned here in a the same 2020 blog post here and in this 2025 blog post as well.

Oh, and both of these very smart people are from Canada.🍁

Kevin Hall and Julia Belluz collaborated and recently released a new book (that I'm really excited about) called Food Intelligence.

I haven't read/listened to Food Intelligence yet, but it's on my shortlist (right now I'm fully into spooky book season and just listened to The Lost Apothecary again and am starting the 1897 version of Dracula).

For more information, here’s a link to the new Food Intelligence book on the publisher's site (this is a direct link, not an affiliate link, and I won't personally get any benefit you choose to buy it here or anywhere):

2 – Upcoming webinar: Exploring the Links Between Sugars Intake and Diet Quality

On Thursday, November 20 the Canadian Nutrition Society is hosting a webinar about sugar intake.

This webinar will be given by a nutrition research consultant and is sponsored by the Canadian Sugar Institute, so it will be interesting to see what they say.🤔

I've signed up for it because I want to know what research they will quote and how it will be presented. I will be open minded for good information, while being skeptical of anything that praises sugar or ultra-processed foods.

3 – Upcoming webinar: Dietary fiber is a cornerstone in chronic disease prevention: insights for healthcare professionals

This is another webinar hosted by the Canadian Nutrition Society. It will be held on Monday, November 24 and is also sponsored by the food industry.

I've registered to attend because studies show that a lot of people need to eat more fibre to be healthier, so I want to know what strategies they suggest to help people do that.
